Don't Be Ashamed: take the time you need :)

The business I work for got sold last week and I decided not to interview for a more corporate and generic job position with the new company.

Am I a fool? Am I missing a huge opportunity? The new company is a billion dollar business that offers benefits and 401k to its employees. Why didn't I take the interview you ask?

I AM STRESSED OUT!

This unwarranted and unexpected change has shaken my mood up lately, and I decided I need to take some time for myself. I am a senior in college and am graduating in May with my Bachelors degree, I figure I need to focus on me and my education.

Enough about me, let's talk about what everyone can do to for themselves and their mental health. This mental health article discusses great methods people can take to comfort their minds. Article source: University of Michigan.

1- Value yourself- You are amazing. Treat yourself with the respect and admiration you deserve. Take time out of your day to do things for yourself such as hobbies, crafts, reading or more. Think of new creative ways to "broaden your horizons" and strive to learn something new everyday.

2 - Take care of your body- Eat nutritiously, which means not a lot of sugary processed food and soda beverages. Make sure you are drinking enough water. Get some exercise in, it will give you more energy in the long-run. Be sure to get an adequate amount of sleep each night and make a regular sleep pattern.

3- Surround yourself with positive influences- Say BYE BYE to the haters, the Debbie-downers and the moochers. Your are better than that and do not need those negative forces in your life. Don't be afraid to be social by joining and trying new things or groups.

4- Learn to manage your stress- Practice your coping skills. Take a Tai Chi class. Go on a nature walk. Find the humor in life because it is scientifically proven that laughter can boost your immune system, ease pain, relax your body and reduce stress. LAUGH MORE!

5- Set Goals- Make lists everyday of what you want to get done that day, that week, that month, or even that year. When you accomplish or finish each thing, check it off and savor that feeling of accomplishment. You are your biggest obstacle, get over yourself and get your goals accomplished.

6- Get help when you need it- Do not be afraid to seek help. Seeking help shows how strong you are and it is not a weakness.

If you realize something is not right, do not wait for things to go wrong....get some therapy or talk to a loved one. Confide in someone other than yourself.

Hoping everybody out there finds the beauty in and around themselves and are focusing on keeping their minds and souls healthy.

LOVE YOURSELF <3
